| Founded in 1950, the Birmingham Zoo is home to over 750 animals and 122 acres of land. The Birmingham Zoo has hosted traveling exhibits of bats, koalas and black-footed penguins, added permanent exhibits of a Komodo dragon and interactive lorikeet aviary, and regained AZA accreditation. Out of the 750 different animals, they all come from several continents across the globe. Other animals at the zoo include tigers, snakes, monkeys, lions, elephants, flamingos, giraffes and many more. The Birmingham Zoo is also home to a wide variety of endangered species.
